Stamping Details - video of my road trip

It takes me awhile to get my videos edited.....but this one is just fun. Made the day that Linda Peterson surprised me at Stamping Details - I just wanted you to see what a fun stamp and altered arts store this is. About 30 minutes northeast of Scrapbook Your Life and downtown San Diego.....if you are ever in southern California...it's a "must do" event!!!

True Friendship

My full name is Jennifer Lynn. Lynn = lake. Jennifer means "white wave". So.....white wave on a lake. Now, think about that. In order to have a "wave" on something as small as a lake, there has to be some pretty strong winds around. Think of how rare that must be?

I have always thought my name ran true to my life and who I am.....rough, rugged, rare, tossed about, never stopping.....I could go on and on.

So when I meet someone who makes an impression on me, I have fun looking up their name to see if they run true to their names.

I've know Vicki for some time now.....but I truly got to KNOW her this week as she was my host with the most while I was at Stamping Details.

Her name is Latin. Meaning "conqueror: victory.....winner"

And when I read that, I just about fell off my seat. You could not nail Vicki any better than to simply describe her as a true "winner"!!!



Not only does she have a winning personality, a generous heart (I suspect to a fault).....she took my bracelet class and made it PERFECT the first try.



If you are like me, and a bit competitive, you just can't "love" someone who can do it perfect the first ever try!!! But I tell you...in 24 hours, I have come to absolutely love this woman. I can't thank her and her sweet hubby enough for their generosity of home and time towards me this week. It has been absolutely incredible!

True friendship. Vicki and I are there for the rest of our lives!!! She works a few days a week at Stamping Details, so pop in and see if you can meet this truly amazing woman! Ask her if I fell in love with Coco, too!!!

The surprise of my life!!!

Added on Thursday:  I have been staying with my new friend, Vickie, up in Ramona CA.....where the buffalo roam...and there's very little internet access.  I have been able to answer most emails via my iphone and was surprised when I got an email from Kathy this morning asking if I was ok.  She said I didn't blog yesterday.  Well, there are always glitches with every system.....and right now I'm at the San Diego airport waiting for my plane to get here and fixing yesterday's blog problems.  This post was scheduled to go live at 7 pm last night....and that just didn't happen.  But keep reading....I think the story is well worth the delay!!!

Linda and I totally enjoy skyping each other and she has been up in Hemet, CA this week attending her uncle's funeral We had set up our cameras and she's been skyping in to my classes as often as she can. Yesterday, I was teaching friendly plastic at Stamping Details, and had my camera all set up.

She texted me and said she was at lunch and would skype as soon as she could.

An hour later, I texted her back and told her she was at a C- for the class because she was late. She texted back that I was a really rough teacher and asked if I graded on the curve at all?

My students were laughing.

Soon after that, I heard her ask, "are you ready to skype?" and in the back of my brain, I thought, "boy, her voice sure is coming in clear over the computer" and instantly realized the computer was to my right and her voice was to my left and I swung around and just let out a scream of joy.....she was live in person in the store!!!

How fun is that?  I was completely shocked and immediately put her to work teaching her wonderful Friendly Plastic ways.  What a bonus treat for those who signed up for that class!!!  And then I let her know she was teaching for "free".

She let me know that what goes around.....comes around!  I imagine I'll pay for this forever!!!

I think I took too many photos....but I just couldn't believe she was in the store!

And here she is with her sweet mom.  Her Aunt was with them as well.  What a totally fun day!

However, I did let Linda know that I am approaching the age where heart attacks can occur with absolutely no warning and perhaps she should give that some consideration in the future!  hahaha!  What a delight to have a friend who would drag her family down to the store where I'm teaching the day after a funeral.  I think that's one for the books!

PS - to my readers.....take a second look at the photos and check out the background!  This store is amazing!  Every single inch of space is crammed with stamps, paint, ink, metal tools, a gadzillion things to play with....it is worth the drive if you are anywhere in the southwest part of the US!!!

Things to do with your Cuttlebug

Great flight to San Diego yesterday - I was stuck between a dad and a mom, each holding an 8 month old twin. My idea of a "wonderful" flight! LOLOL!!!

My last class in Poway is going to be a jam-packed technique class showing you some fun things you can dow in your Cuttlebug. This is my latest CTC (creative technique cards) class and bound to make your head spin! Here's preview (ok, some of these sandwiches even amazed me!!!)

Make your own stencil - give texture to any diecut

Make your own matching charms

Emboss a brass stencil with no lines from the outside of the stencil:

 

Cut a die inside a die in a single pass!!!  You will love this one!  I used the seedpacket die and the small nested bird for this one

Negative space inking vs inking:

Cuttlebug (open) folder embossing with brass stencils (or without)

Make your own dimensional foam stamp:

Mirror embossing (one die, both right and left are embossed)

Diecutting transparencies and airbrush painting

Watercolor painting on copper (my absolute favorite diecut technique!)

When I started experimenting with these techniques, I was delighted at how well they all work in the cuttlebug!  I've also got a sandwich for cutting sizzix 12" border dies in the cuttlebug and a couple of surprises for this class!

San Diego bound...again!!!

I'm going to be in San Diego from 4/22 - 5/7...teaching again at Scrapbook Your Life! But this trip, I'm going to teach a very very limited 2 classes at Stamping Details in Poway as well. I'll be at SBL! on National Scrapbook day with Susan Mostek - world famous stamper extraordinaire!!!

(OK, I can hear Susan laughing as she reads that to her husband!!!)

So today, she and I had a pre-planning day. I counted. We came up with 19 classes to work up for both stores. WOW!!! And I know at least one of my classes will be showing you 5 different techniques that I've not taught yet....so get those ATCs ready!!!

I'll be doing some layout classes this trip, cards, altered items, paper dolls, lots of technique loaded classes, and we're going to learn how to use copic markers! Here's a great new technique that I totally love...I'm calling it blended airbrush swipe. OK, not the cricut diecuts in the foreground....but look at the background:



It came out simply wonderful....but then I do love this color combination. As in all my classes, you can pick the colors you want to experiment with!

I'm going to do my very best to have all my class samples and the class schedule posted by March 15. But mark your calendars now!!! We're going to have a blast!!!
