Beach Bag Party Aug 30

Have you figured out by now that I'd much prefer to have a party than teach a class? So I figure, why not have the best of both worlds? On Saturday night, we're going to have a PAJAMA party at Scrapbook Your Life! Wear your beach themed pjs - I have mine packed!!! And yes - we're going to make books out of white lunch sacks. I know - everyone is using brown bags and making "brown bag books" - but I just figured if we used white bags, they'd be a bit more colorful!

Isn't that gorgeous? Oh! Just wait!!! It's so much better in person and if you live in San Diego, run on down to Scrapbook Your Life! cause the book is at the store!

I'm going to teach you how to color seashells and make pockets to tuck them into:

How to alter stickers to match anything (this one was yellow, blue and red - check it out here

The cover title is "Come and Play" "by the Sea"

Come and spendsome time with me
We'll go play down by the sea.

Pick up shells we find today
Keep these treasures tucked away.

I'll show you how to make pop down pages like this:

And fold out pages like this:

Sure makes an ordinary book way more interesting!

The rest of the little poem:

Palm trees swaying, sailboats list
Can you feel the ocean mist?

Even when it's only me
Life is good down by the sea!

Check out Scrapbook Your Life's blog for even more details like:

Wear you beach themed pajamas!

Cook hotdogs on the grill and chow down while we watch movies on the wall

Limited number so call the store and sign up fast!!!

My beach bag book

Made from brown paper bags - but you'd never know it! The cover is a true collage of beach stuff....take a moment to look around!

Notice the diecut palm tree in the back? Crafty Secrets stickers over Design Original paper.

I love putting things in bottles. Like little seashells here, but the 2 shells to the right of the bottle are polymer clay covered with perfect pearls. The sandals - coated with alcohol ink to alter the color. See the glass bead fish to the right of them? And the bead below the botttle to the left, petrified reed from Sugar Creek in Indiana.

Drop swarovsky flat-backed crystals along the rim of a flattened bottlecap and cover the whole thing with glossy accents. Such a fun embellishment!

These were brown sandals on the end of a keychain I bought in Ensenada, Mexico. Used rainbow inks to color them.

Did you see that instead of a cork stopper, I used a seashell for the stopper in the bottle?

And then under all of this, note the big (giant) jute fish net?

The windows on the right open up. Seashore paper behind an acrylic window, all raised with mounted foam tape to make a shaker box filled with real sand and tiny seashells:

At the seashore we listen to the waves
stick our toes in the sand....as a starfish misbehaves!

The photo frame in the top left is spellbinders tag die folded in half and cut. The feet at the bottom is one mystery die, using the mirror embossing technique.

at the seashore- sand dollars in our hand
buckets and shovels, too, We'll build castles in the sand.

A real sand dollar chalked (great technique!), and more spellbinders dies. Love this Design Originals paper with Crafty Secrets stickers.

At the sea shore, we write down what we do.
We sit and rest and chat...and take photos of us, too.

More diecuts, ready for you to add a photo. There's a pocket and in it is an accordian "photo album" ready for you to embellish.

Most people just do flat pages in a paper bag book, but depending on how you cut and fold the bag, you can get fold out pages and more. This is folded shut.....

And here it is open. I even put a shaker box filled with sand, shells and trinkets inside this page:

At the seashore, it's so much fun to play...
Time is of no essence, we are only here today!

I cut out little kids and they are looking at the treasures -

And there is even a secret pocket on this page!

And then there are fold-down pages! The page on the right folds down. But yes, that is a real seahorse over on the left!

And here it is folded open.

A huge piece of mica covering travel stickers. Room to write, put photos or souveniers:

I like to cut the starfish die, bend the "legs" and put a pop dot under the center. Makes them look more real! I also put burlap pages in my beach bag books. Why? Because when you stitch this between paper, it makes it stronger and less likely the paper will tear.

Another great tip - use safety pens to attach charms to Amaco's mesh wire. Just for fun!

And while you have pockets between the pages, I decided to put pockets "in" the pages!

And finally, a lot of tags stuck down in the pockets in the bag:

I really tried to get this on published in a magazine or book, but I think it was just too "over-the-top" so I'm just going to self-publish it in my blog for you to enjoy! I know - not everyone would do a brown paper bag like this, but it sure was fun!!! Hmmm....I might just put this one up for sale on ebay one of these days!

When I pick a place to play.....

I pick the best! Today, I thought I'd take you on a tour of Scrapbook Your Life! in San Diego CA, where I have been playing for the past 2 weeks....and will be "living" there most of this coming week!

6400 Square Feet.....that's SIX THOUSAND, 400 SQUARE FEET!!!! What a wonderland to play in!!!

More Disney, Vacation, Beach, San Diego, local tourist attractions......themed paper, stickers and embellies than you can fathom!

I call these "rounders", but they are square, with paper, stickers, chipboards, flowers, glitter...on all 4 sides...all coordinating...everywhere on the store floor. So much to see....so many things to buy!!!

My favorite paper this week:

with "to die for" chipboard embellies to match. I used these on my "MOM" acrylic word book that I will post tomorrow. I made the whole thing in under an hour! Sooooooo easy!!!

Now, in all honesty, I will confess....the store was looking a little sparse the last time I was out here. But wow! Have they stocked it up! And just in the last 2 - 3 weeks....everything is filling up fast! How do I know? Well, I was there til 11 pm last night and when I left, 3 very dedicated staff people were STILL there putting new product out on the shelves!!!

boy stuff, girl stuff, baby stuff....all the new Fiskar's baby line....with three peas in a pod! It's so totally cute. And I "don't do baby"! LOLOL!

So much glue, tape adhesive....where do I start? My cart is already so full....and my bags are way overweight for the trip home!!!

So much ribbon I couldn't get it all in the photo!!! Lots of drooling on my part. Ribbon is one of my great weaknesses!!!

paints, inks, pens, melt art, Ranger (yeah!)....this is probably my fav part of the store. I call this the "toy" section. And I am pushing, pushing, pushing for them to get in product. I even ordered some stuff for this section.....the new Scor-It Mini AND the tote for it....Tim Holtz sentiment keys, my fav colors of distress inks AND reinkers....just so much stuff that was being put out and added late last night after I took these pics!

So, here you go...the FAMOUS "wall of paper". As far as you can see. And this is JUST the patterned paper!!! Thousands of different designs. I promise...you come in and we'll count them together!

And the solid colored papers are on these squares....both sides! So much paper! I call my girlfriend a "paper whore".....but I think we could say the same for this store! Just so much paper...I LOVE IT!!!

At least a dozen more HUGE boxes of product to put out when I left at 11 pm!!!

Almost forgot the punch section. I do love my diecuts (Liz just ordered $2600.00 worth of Spellbinders nestabilities and new dies!!! Hope they get here this week!!!)

And the classroom where I will be this week! I promise the boxes will be gone today!!!

This store includes a play area for your kids with TV, Disney DVDs and toys. I've even seen grown men taking naps on the floor in the play area while they wait for their partners to finish shopping!

There's a computer in the class room, so your hubby can browse the internet while you are shopping....or you can take a break and check your emails (ok, who on earth does that when there's this much to buy???) :o)

This truly is a mecca of things to play with! Today, I promise to take lots of photos of new product and this might be a double-blog day....if I get home in time I'll add all those tonigh!

Ah! Wouldn't you love to be a mouse in my pocket today? Come and play the JLo way in a scrapbook mecca like this? I can hardly wait to get on the road and get down there just to see what's new on the shelves!!!

My class today is at 1 pm....so hurry on down, there are still openings. We're doing 4" x 4" square acrylic albums....and I'm changing out what we will be doing even as I type this (because there is so much new stuff in the store right now!)

Doors open at 10 am. If you get there before me.....don't buy it all!!!

4 inches of snow and I feel like spring!

I'm having such fun playing at mom's! There's a tiny little scrapbook store in town called Memories 4 Life. I found these cute papers there yesterday. Of course, the wood words were red white and blue so I just painted them with pink dabber paints. But isn't this a delightful spring journal cover? Love the little doll dressed. The paper and stickers came with a load of glitter all over them. Just too cute!

That will be my journal this month. Next, I wanted to try to do a brown paper bag book, but without sewing the bags. I decided to give a try using my bind-it-all and my mini score it. Well, once again, I scored!!!

Don't you love those little dolls? A take off on the newest papers from Basic Gray. I traced them, cut them out, inked them, and dressed them with stickers from this line by K&company.

One of these days I will fill the pockets with tags and such. For now....I'm just playing.

The whole inside is filled with paper and stickers.

Using the bind-it-all was perfect, saved time, and I didn't have to get the sewing machine out!

Everything was edged with Fired Brick distress ink

And I used my mini scor-it to fold each lunch sized bag in half before punching holes with the bind-it-all.

And another little Basic Gray doll on the back:

There may be snow on the ground, but I'm sure having fun playing with all these wonderful spring time papers and stickers. Paper dolls, dolls, doll dresses.....my favorite things to play with! There's such a child in me!
