More scrap the crap!

What a totally fun class this is....but how brave you must be if you are the instructor as you never know what someone will bring to see what you can turn it into! Sally brought this sheet of paper....and we had to agree...it's pretty crappy as it is!

I cut out the inside and outside borders, inked it up, and then started layering product and colors and mediums on top. But what we found most amazing is what you can do with the final product. Here it is on coral....

And here it is on green.....what a difference!

One pair of scissors is in the original piece of paper, the others were cut from another piece of coordinating paper by the same company.  We used matte, sepia and glossy accents, Ranger's white pen, stickles....and simply took the graphics that were already in the paper and "popped" them with product.

For the tag in the lower right hand corner, we outlined the already existing leaf in white pen, then covered the tag with glossy accents.  Who would know this isn't and embellishment we stuck on top?

Just so many fun things you can do with all the fun product available.  I've come to the conclusion....you can take any piece of old paper that you don't like....and turn it into something you love!  After I took the photos, I decided to go back and add micro brads for the joint on the scissors.  That's the toughest thing for me...when are we done with our play?  LOL!

Hey Sally.....better start the hunt for an even crappier piece of paper for my next trip to San Diego!!!  And I think I'm going to offer this same challenge to my Colorado pals.....bring me your crap....we'll turn it into something you love!!!

National Scrapbook Day at Scrapbook Your Life!

Wow! What an incredibly fun Fun FUN day!!! I was there at 7 am....tormenting and torturing those standing in line. I'd go inside the store, pick out brand new product, bring it out front....tell them where to run and grab it! And then bring them chocolate! YES!!! CHOCOLATE at SEVEN AM!!!

Now, I hope the other girls will email me their photos to share here....I was so busy there was no time to take a picture. We had make-n-takes from 8 - 10 and then class from 10 - 3, then an hour to clean up and the crop started at 4 pm. I fizzled out and decided to go have dinner with Liz and Lucky. Liz went back to the store...Lucky and I came home. Of course, I've spent the last 3 hours trying to cram all that I can into my bags for the trip home tomorrow. I still will need to ship yet another box home (that makes 4 boxes sent home!)

On Thursday night, we did "scrap the crap". We decided we will do this every time I come back. My challenge was that you bring me your worst piece of paper and see what I can do with it. Something like this:

A little ink, EP and white pen work...not so bad....

Here I used a cuttlebug numbers embossing folder and Distress Ink to alter this paper. I sort of like this one:

The background is the old stuff. We added stamps and black EP, Versamark pen and pink glitter EP and some ink. Totally changed the look and texture of this piece of paper.

Put rice in a balloon. Pull it tight. Tap it into the distress ink, then tap it onto the paper. Totally funky!

Hmm...I think I can date this paper to pre 2003! Diecut, inked and stickles glitter painted over it. Truly gorgeous now!

tan postcard paper in the back, inked, folded into an envelpe and stamped on.

Just amazing what you can do with old product. The class was a huge success....everyone went home happy....with a whole lot of new ideas to do to re-make old product.

And it was all FREE! Don't you wish you had ben here? LOL!

OK, so my bags are packed and I'm ready to fly, heading home. Will be good to see my hubby....3 weeks and 2 days...that's a pretty long time for me to be gone! But it sure has been fun!!!

Secret Treasures

I think perhaps one of my more fun classes is the one I call "Scrap the crap!" I tell students to bring in their worst piece of paper, the embellishment they "hate" the most, or the oldest thing they have....and we will turn it into a wonderful treasure box. Here's what I did with leftover bits and pieces from all the projects I've made the past couple of weeks at Scrapbook Your Life! It's called "Secreat Treasures" because I don't think we really "see" what we can do with all the leftover bits and pieces that we have.

By inking the background papers....I can mix and match almost anything I have. Here, I painted the cigar box (that I got at the swap meet for $1.00) with pink paint....then distressed the paint with distress ink. And then my ungrunged grungeboard....

By inking the diecut felt strips, cutting out elements, placing them to cover "seams"...you can do so much with the little remnants that you have. Of course, a little bling always adds to the project!

Can you identify prior blogs using this paper? Hard to say with how I've inked it!

On the very back, I made up little collages using leftover stickers...inking them to tone down some of the bright colors:

I never throw out anything! My class yesterday learned that as we used the reverse side of paper that we punched out tags from to find the words for our "high style" booklet.

I have a ton of scraps still left over and decided that I needed something to store them in at Scrapbook Your Life! until my next trip out. Oh! Just wait til I get it all finished and blog it....you are going to want to do this to everything in your play area! But that's a couple more days away! Today, I'm taking a day off. Getting a manicure and pedicure...pamper time with my friend, Lucky! Can hardly wait to get into the massage chair! Hope you do something fun today!!!
