Grandma's hankies

Remember the story of Hansel and Gretel?  How they left a trail of bread crumbs behind them?  Well, Grandma Moore left hankies wherever she went!  We always knew she had been there because we'd find a hanky!   I think she is the Grandma who taught me how to play. She rolled hankies up and turned them into babies in a cradle that you could swing.  She stitched bonnets on them and made little dolls out of them.  She was very poor, but her heart and her spirit were so rich.  She loved to sing hymns, she loved to praise God.

Grandma would have said, "Life is better when it's fun!"  She would have been amazed with my airbrush machine, copic markers.  And I know she would have tried them all out!!!

She made her own glue out of flour and water.  She would have just loved Stickles!  Strawberries, grapes and cherries were her dye.  Wonderful how God created "art" in the very beginning.

Next I'll have to make some more chipboard cups to put my hankies in.  Oh….life is just so much better when it's fun!!!

Mom's teacup and the Abbey Retreat

If you remember, a year ago, I went to the Abbey Retreat and created and amazing teacup in honor of mom.  Well, this is the 1 year anniversary of her "running" to heaven, and I was inspired by a brand new Sizzix teacup die.  Boy!  Was I inspired!!!  (I bought the die at the local Stamp House  719-275-8422)

Isn't this adorable?  I used mostly Bo Bunny Press stuff....lots of die cut cardboard.  I cut the cup in chipboard and covered both sides.  Some of the silk flowers are from old hats.  I used Memory Box dressform die cuts.  The paperclip dress forms are Maya Road.  Prima flowers.  Distress Inks.

I titled this on "Make things happen".  I know that mom would have just loved it!

So on Sunday, I did a demo of how to assemble the teacup.  Used my Xyron 910 to adhere adhesive to everything.  It's really easy to prep and get the stickler down and dried before you even start!  For this one, I really used leftover scraps and I love how it came out!  You almost have to ask, "where's the teacup?"  LOL!

You can look at these from any side as everything is covered or hidden.

I also made an entire journal and several cards....I'll blog them tomorrow.  It was a fabulous weekend.  My first time to stay on campus and I'm so glad I did that!  I scrapped til about 10:30 at night and was back in the hall by 7:30 in the morning.  Several old friends and many new ones - a real treat!  I already have the next one marked on my calendar - Jan 31 - Feb 2, 2014.  If you book before Oct 31, you get 10% off!!!

Another idea for making an art doll is to dress them with a hanky.

That you can take and use
If you get in a mess
And when you need to sneeze
And you hear a "bless you"
Just pull her dress right off...
It's a hanky for you!!!

I wrote this one several years ago after Grandma Hazel died. I need to go find the hanky babies and take a photo of them.

Grandma's hanky:

When I was a child, I'd hear Grandma say
"Let's make us some babies so we can play."

She'd fold her hanky and soon there'd be
a cradle with babies just made for me!

When I was a teen and needed to cry
Grandma used that hanky to wipe my eye.

I needed something old on my wedding day.
She handed me her hanky and I was on my way.

When my son was born she made a tiny hat,
a fold and a stitch, just as simple as that!

As I grew older, I'd hear myself say,
"I guess Grandma was here today."

I'd find her hanky on the bed or on the floor.
Who else could it be by Grandma Moore?

A hanky in hand, we laid her to rest.
No one will argue, she was the best!

Cherish the memories and hear Grandma say,
"Let's make us some babies....let's go play!"
