Art Clay Silver- what is it?

My definition: It's wonderful!!!

The official definition: It looks like a moist lump of clay. It's made up of silver particles, organic binders and water. You can mold it and shape it into anything you want. Dry it. Fire it. The binder burns off and the end result is .999 pure silver.

It looks just like sterling silver, but it won't turn your skin green as there are no alloys in it. Sterling is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other matals. Art Clay Silver is 99.9% silver.

And then they came up with a paper type Art Clay Silver. You can diecut it. Emboss it. Metal Repousse it, Origami it.....I just love it!!! And that's what I'm teaching at the Metal Clay World Conference this summer.

Today, if you happened to skype me (an you know who you are) this is what you were greeted with!!!

LOLOL!!! When I work with mini punches and diecuts, I put on my overheads so I can see. I not only have 2 eyes....I think I have about 8 eyes with these on. But let me tell you, I can see the tiniest piece of lint and fuzz with them on!

I have been diecutting like a mad woman!  I cut the bigger pieces first, then punch the scraps.  I definitely need more punches.  The heart is the smallest that I have.  It's about 1/16" across.  Most of the larger ones are under 1" wide.

All the left over paper gets tossed into my cup, mixed with water and ground into paste

That paste gets put into molds.....and I get even more silver to play with!

I'm going to teach you how to do all this in our pre-conference workshop.  I think you will be amazed.  I didn't even use 3 whole sheets of paper type and I got all this!  So just a little bit goes a real long way!!!

If you can't make it to the conference, I hope to have a video available in August!
